PERFIL Proposal for Walk&Talk Ponta Delgada, Açores, Portugal 2015
Due to its permanent presence, Ponta Delgada's natural landscape tends to lose impact on its inhabitants' day-to-day life. Repeated, the experience of space becomes more neutral and indefined, the attention, the fascination, is lost. It's proposed, thus, to give locals back the amazement potential of those visiting S. Miguel for the first time: to reactivate vision, making it active towards what surrounds it. More than claiming attention to a new object, it is meant to emphasize the richness of reality as it is, stimulationg perception and exploring natural heritage values. Focused on several key-points of the town, this installation takes shape in wooden panels that replicate the outline of the landscape behind them and give them a different setting. By reconfiguring the relation between the mountains or the ocean with the sky, it is proposed to the passerby to stop and reposition himself - literal and figuratively - on the face of this image of all days. On a second moment, after the direct interaction with the profile they relate to, these panels will be put together, composing a symbolic ensemble of Ponta Delgada's landscape. It is about, therefore, stimulating an environment and a critical sense towards reality and, by doing so, taking on a recollection of the place's natural silhouettes, in a more documental work. This is a territorial intervention, since it is set on different points of a specific geographic area, connecting it ti a wider area and gathering all this extension into a single element.
